Our Story

Kate’s Place restaurant is owned and operated by Kate Tilton, a Wimberley resident who has a lifetime of restaurant and cooking experience with a deeply held love of food, gardening, and design.  All these passions came together when the opportunity to renovate “Charlie’s Place”, a long-time Wimberley site for food and music, became available in the summer of 2009.  Kate and her husband Ron Tilton, a University of Texas Professor engaged diabetes research, worked for months using only local Wimberley talent to create a truly distinctive restaurant.  Kate’s Place is all about connecting with each other and treating our bodies, our taste buds, and our environment well.

Dedicated to elegant simplicity, Kate believes the best meals are crafted with care.  She uses only fresh, seasonal, and as much as possible, locally produced food to generate daily soup, sandwich, entrée, and dessert specials that complement her varied lunch and dinner entrees.  Kate delivers creative twists on American favorites, like her Shrimp and Grits or her famous Kate’s Burger. Her dedication to fresh food, freshly prepared, and her love of gardening are exemplified by the  vegetable and herb gardens located on the restaurant site, that are used to provide fresh-cut herbs, vegetables and flowers for her restaurant. Further evidence of Kate’s dedication to healthy eating is exemplified by her statement from the very start “remove these deep fryers from my kitchen..!!!”

In the mood for a cold one? Kate serves an ever changing variety of locally crafted beers to help you cool down while you relax in perhaps the best, cozy little bar in all of Texas.  Kate, and her kitchen and wait staff welcome you to an elegant dining experience in a relaxing, comfortable environment.
